AC, lemonade & Creative Group

“We’re having a heat wave,
A tropical heat wave,
The temperature’s rising,
It isn’t surprising,
[We]  certainly can can-can.”

Just so you know, I will quote Irving Berlin any chance I get.  If you’re near me, you might even here me singing it!  I grew up on a steady diet of movie musicals, thanks to my MOM (the Prairie Chick).

Every Christmas we’d watch the classic, White Christmas with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen.  I think my sister, Brianna (the Bishop’s wife), is also blessed (or cursed depending on how you look at it) with Berlin’s lyrics running all over her brain too!

It’s not all my MOM’s fault though.  During my third semester at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, my class did a medley including this very same song (“Heat Wave”).  So…it’s forever on re-play.  Bless my husband (and you) for putting up with me and my show tunes!

We’re having creative group tonight! There will be cooling AC and crisp lemonade, perhaps even some Grapefruit Basil Limeade if I get fancy.  Our friend and creative cohort, Jessica Blackham (art director at Martha Stewart) will be leading us in our creative play – a fun, fabric flower-pin making project.

Then it’s time to share progress on our personal creative projects!  I know Wendy Lane Bailey will be sharing the release of her debut CD, Breathing with us which is very exciting!

My news: I’ve been songwriting (oh my)! I’m planning on sharing an example or two with our group and hopefully soon I’ll have a taste for you too.  Plus, I’ve got an audition for AMC’s The Walking Dead coming up this week and I’m super excited about it!  They are casting a role, a young women who rides horses – can you believe it?  And it’s possibly recurring.  I try not to get too psyched for things like this, but to ride horses  while acting would be a dream come true!  I’ve already had one dream come true which was to combine my love of music and acting while shooting the film, Solomon Grundy.

*Check out a recording of the song I sing in the club scene if you’d like! –> “Whispering Wicked”

Now, wouldn’t it be amazing if I could combine my love of horses and film by booking this role?!  I’d be grateful for some good vibes if you don’t mind sending a few out.  I really would like to book this one! :)

Here’s my Arabian beauty, Valero.

Horse smooches are really the best, aren’t they?!  I’ll be home on the farm (in MN) in a few short weeks.

I can’t wait to ride!

  1. I don’t know about you guys but when I hear “The Walking Dead” I think zombies. The image of you as a zombie riding a zombie horse is currently keeping me quite entertained.

Also I’m flattered to have made the blog!

  2. I think the role is a normal person trying to escape and outwit the zombies. Think the horse is also normal. …I hope! I don’t know if the makeup department would dare try to attempt that with our equine friends ;)

    Good luck ! :)

Mack Attack, I love The Walking Dead! Sending you good vibes for your audition. Wish I were there to join your creative group. You are so talented, keep following your dreams & inspiring others.

  5. Can’t wait to see pictures of your Creative Group night project. I have just begun been needle felting and am having a great time with it.
    Good luck with the audition!

  6. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I could’ve just said thanks (x3) but it’s more fun to write it out :) Creative Group was super fun! I’ll be posting pictures of our mess and final products. Perhaps we will try needle felting with the left overs! And I’ll keep ya’ll posted on The Walking Dead. Yeehaw!
