It’s Happened: Hiding Chocolate & Going Bananas
It’s happened. I’m hiding chocolate.
What?
Yes. I did it last night.
Why?
Because the hubster eats things while I sleep…
I fell in love with a chocolate bar. (It happens too.) I even made a special run to the store yesterday to get another one. (Because the first bar was taken from me so suddenly.)
You feel for me, don’t you?
Here’s how it went down… I had two beautiful pieces of my chocolate bar left, waiting in the fridge for a craving. When I went for them they were gone! All that was left was an empty carcass of a wrapper. It was laying there, splayed open in the fridge. I was devastated.
Let me ask you this: who eats your last few bites of amazing chocolate goodness (mint infused and slightly crunchy) WHILE YOU ARE SLEEPING? And who leaves the wrapper looking like there is something inside, like its cradling a bit of heaven? Well, you know who!
So last night I hid my new chocolate bar. Am I ashamed? Slightly. Do I regret it? Not one iota.
I have even more appreciation for my chocolate bar (see, love continues to grow after infatuation) after having read about Equal Exchange and their mission to bring fairly traded goods to market. Their motto: “Small Farmers. Big Change.”
I’ve always been nuts about bananas. Ever since I was a kid. Did you know that bananas are the highest selling produce in the United States? Interesting. Apparently there is some statistic that says a shopper will frequent a certain vendor based upon the price of their bananas. Silly you think? I still remember the Kwik Trip gas station in my home town had the cheapest bananas while I was a teenager. No kidding! Not sure if they still do, but you get the picture!
After having read about what some small banana farmers are going through in an effort to break free from Dole, I’m willing to pay a bit more for a ‘nana’ that will satisfy not only my cravings but the welfare of others as well. If you’re interested in learning more, there’s a great piece on Equal Exchange’s blog and you just might go bananas for it. My guess is you’ll certainly love their chocolate! (Well, you know I do!)
And will you be honest with me? Have you ever hid a bar of chocolate?
Please say yes.

Of course I have hidden chocolate. I am a woman!
Haha! I am imagining your hubby, sleepy and in need of a good chocolate fix – you’re poor chocolate bar! Thanks for the giggle
And he leaves the wrapper…such a MAN!
Yes I do hide chocolate and I think I am my Grandmother hiding candy……. I am not revealing my location!!!!
Liz, it would be unwise to do so!!!
