Abigail Washburn

Thought I’d share my new favorite banjo player!  Not to exclude Jay Reinders who plays in a folk/rock band called Red Lipstick with my mom and additional awesome & beloved relatives!  This banjo player’s name is Abigail Washburn.  I heard her while I was listening to NPR the other day.

*side note: Does saying that I was “listening to NPR the other day” make me sound cultured or at least aware in some respect?  I hope so because I often feel smarter after tuning in.  “Like, uh…because – you know, they talk about world politics and art and stuff?”  …hehe.  I just thought I’d convey my level of understanding in comparison to the majority of their guests.  In case you didn’t know, I’m the “Like, uh” character and they are the slightly ‘smarter’ ones.  Back on track…

The music was almost like it was straight out of “O BROTHER WHERE ART THOU.”  I love that film.  High five to the Cohen Brothers and a special note to my dear friend Michael Badalucco who played Baby Face Nelson.   But again I digress…  Abigail has a beautiful voice that’s right in line with my favorite indie/folk singers.  Her music makes you feel as if you’re sitting in the back of the hay wagon just rollin’ along an old country road, but then her lyrics are enlightened and bring you back to a full awareness of your senses.   In short – it’s good stuff!  My favorite song is called “Bring me my Queen.”  I couldn’t find a video of that one so you’ll have to go to her facebook page for that.  But enjoy another great song in the video below.  Perhaps you too will become a fan ;)

Listen to her tunes on facebook.
